This issue includes a spotlight on our summer programs and web initatives. A New Character in Fairy Tale Exhibit
On January 17th, Stacy Clark joined families for a day of artmaking activities related to her My Own Fairy Tale Exhibit. One of the day's activities included a group activity where students sketched and brainstormed ideas for a new character. They included fire breathing dragons, healing fairies, girls who wear clothes upside down, blacksmith men, and more. From the sketches to beginning a sewn body, Stacy worked with the group to create a large dragon and rider. This new character can be seen suspended in our gallery through June 30, 2009. Sketches, prints from a printmaking activity, and photographs from the Open Studio Day will be on display as part of the My Own Fairy Tale Exhibit: An Exhibit of Student Literary and Visual Art. We're still taking submissions for our My Own Fairy Tale Exhibit: An Exhibit of Student Literary and Visual Art. The exhibition is open to all K-12 students, including homeschoolers, private and public school students. The student exhibit opens on March 15 and continues through May 17, 2009. For submission guidelines, visit our website,www.schwenkfelder.com Beekeeping: Uses and Folklore Sunday, March 22, 2009 Apiarists Jim Bobb and Bruce Gill will be led in a discussion by moderator Alan Keyser on the keeping of bees today and in former times.
