This month we asked family workshop participants and visiting school students to tell us of memories they have of the holiday season. Here are some responses: "Every Thanksgiving we decorate the house unless we couldn't that day. It's my favorite time. I've dreamed of several decorations but one I always wanted were Christmas lights, other than the Christmas tree itself, they're my favorite decoration." Ashlan, Silverdale, PA "When we lived in Washington we decorated our Christmas tree and my mom made hot chocolate. And here in PA our tree fell over 2 times, one time in the night and one in the day." My Own Fairy Tale:
November 29, 2008-June 30, 2009 My Own Fairy Tale: Fanciful Art Dolls by Stacy Clark opened November 29th. Clark’s individual hand sewn, painted, and stuffed figures are inspired by nursery rhymes, folklore, and fairy tales. Visit our gallery through June 2009 and write your own story! The My Own Fairy Tale gallery guide is designed to assist visitors to construct their own fairy tale based on Clark's Fairy Tale exhibit. Visit our website for an extensive list of characters and to view photos.
Folk artists Charlie and Betty Shank, and SLHC Curator, Candace Perry, have worked alongside Stacy Clark to create a complex environment reflecting Stacy Clark’s use of fabric, color, and craft. Bill Bourne provided signage and labeling for the exhibit. My Own Fairy Tale: An Exhibit of Student Literary & Visual Art

On November 20th, Mrs. Maureen McGurk's class from Souderton Charter School visited the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center to review the notebooks of John D. Souder. Souder was a noted local historian who compiled notes, photographs, drawings, and newspaper articles about local sites, events, and religious groups into binders during the 1930s and 1940s. These notebooks can be found in our archive. Each student reviewed one notebook of the Heritage Center's collection of twenty-three. Mrs. McGurk provided a basic framework for students to complete a timeline of events back in the classroom. If you are interested in viewing documents from our archive or to schedule an appointment please contact our Archivist Hunt Schenkel, hunt@schwenkfelder.com |
