Cotton in Pennsylvania German Life
Postage Stamp Patchwork
ca. 1886-1888
Cotton
Made by Lydia (Schultz) Wieand (1805-1888)
Probably Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County
Gift of Levi Schultz Wieand
1921.15.15

This patchwork was made by Mrs. Lydia Wieand “after she was 81 years old” as an attached note states. Mrs. Wieand, a Schwenkfelder descendant, painstakingly pieced each individual patch to the next, resulting in this amazing work. In some patches, smaller scraps were sewn together to create the tiny blocks. The quilt top features 11,100 pieces.
