Cotton
Made by a member of the Johnson Family

Gift of Mrs. Amanda (Johnson) Schweitzer

This example of a two-sided quilt features the Flying Geese pattern on the front and a “strippy” design on the reverse. Incorporated into the red, white and blue patriotically inspired strips is a print with soldiers, cannon and flags.

Manufacturers produced patriotic-themed cottons during the Civil War. A note attached to this quilt indicated that its military-inspired print was purchased for $1.00 a yard.
