Amanda Johnson’s girlhood dresses were made from a similar pattern. Quite typical of the early 1850s, these hand-sewn dresses exhibit details of the time period, such as piping at the waistband. Their survival, in fairly good condition, indicates that they were not passed down to other children in the family and worn out.
