Art in the Family Exhibit Opens at Schwenkfelder Heritage Center
The new exhibit Art in the Family featuring the art of husband and wife Chris and Adria Ovdiyenko of Pennsburg, Montgomery County, and Chris' sister Jennifer is currently on view at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center in Pennsburg through July 31.
The exhibit includes a fresh and innovative selection of work ranging from Adria Ovdiyenko's visually arresting interpretations of aerial landscapes in glass, to her husband's Chris' extraordinary take on traditional landscape painting, meticulously painted in the manner of a digital pixilation and the juxtaposition of Jennifer's work in fiber, consisting of baskets and woven objects in familiar, and not-so-familiar forms.
Chris Ovdiyenko has also installed a large scale version of one of his works on the gallery wall, which further illuminates his technique and point of view.
Additionally, Chris and Adria will be participating in a family educational workshop on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Families are invited to join the artists and SLHC Museum Educator Rebecca Lawrence from 1:30pm–3:00pm in art activities. The workshop is offered at a $5 fee for each participant. Participants will use digital cameras to capture portraits which they then will re-create using a technique inspired by Chris Ovdiyenko's drawings and paintings. The program is designed especially for students ages 6–12, but others are also welcome. For more information about our Family & Homeschool Workshop series and registration, contact Rebecca Lawrence, Museum Educator, Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center 215–679–3103.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with their Pennsylvania German Heritage. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215–679–3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
