Bradley Hendershot Exhibit Opening November 12, 2011
Pennsburg, PA—The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA, announce the opening of the exhibit: Home and Away: Pennsylvania, Maine, and Maryland's Eastern Shore by regionally acclaimed artist Bradley Hendershot on Saturday, November 12. A "meet the artist" opening reception will be held that day from 7:00–9:00 pm. The public is invited to the reception and to visit the exhibit in the Heritage Center Meeting Room.
Hendershot's comprehensive artist statement reads in part: "Rural Pennsylvania and coastal Maine—regions that I know well, regions that have special meaning to me...Time and history have left their imprint. Each one evokes a special place, a special time. They are all a part of a rural community and a way of life that is quickly fading into the past." This exhibit captures three different, yet familiar places in time, providing a glimpse into the varied rural characteristics they represent.
Hendershot has held numerous exhibitions both here in his native Pennsylvania and in Maine. Residing in the Upper Perkiomen Valley, Hendershot is currently enjoying teaching history and science at Perkiomen School, a small, private college preparatory high school in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with their Pennsylvania German Heritage. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215–679–3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
