Aerial Photography Exhibit Opening September 6
Pennsburg, PA— The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA, invites the community to visit a new exhibit opening September 6 in the Heritage Center Meeting Room, "Pennsylvania From Above - Aerial Art Photography by Peter Stern". The artwork will be on exhibit through October 31.
We are delighted to introduce Heritage Center visitors to an amazing artist and photographer - Peter Stern. Peter’s aerial photography will captivate and intrigue you – it is the kind of work that makes you look twice or more to take in not simply the beauty of his work, but to understand the natural and man-made landscapes that he captures with his camera.
Piloting an ultralight aircraft, photographer Peter Stern seeks out the unique beauty of the Pennsylvania landscape from the air. His artistic compositions range from representational images of the familiar — farmland, towns, industries, and bodies of water, to abstractions of places hidden from view to most people on the ground such as quarries and coal-mining areas. Using the elements of the earth, combining colors, textures, and light, Peter’s photographs often resemble paintings or hand-made prints.
You’ll also have the opportunity to meet Peter and learn about his photography at a special lecture Wednesday, October 12 at noon (repeated Sunday, October 16, 2:00 pm). Peter’s work will also be available for purchase. You will not want to miss this unique vision of our beloved Pennsylvania landscape!
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with their Pennsylvania German Heritage. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215–679–3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
