A Visit to Winterthur Museum and Gardens

Pennsburg, PA—The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, invites the public to join their bus trip to Winterthur Museum and Gardens, Wilmington, Delaware, to see the new exhibit, "Paint, Pattern & People: Furniture of Southeastern Pennsylvania, 1725–1850", on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. The trip will leave the Heritage Center parking lot at 8:30 am and return approximately 6:00 pm. The cost for the trip is $65.00.

"Paint, Pattern & People" sheds new light on distinctive local variations of furniture, presenting rare examples for which the maker or family history is known. This landmark exhibition explores the stunning and diverse furniture of southeastern Pennsylvania and the people who made, owned, inherited, and collected it. This new special exhibit includes four pieces from the Heritage Center collection.

In addition to the motor coach transportation, the trip cost covers general admission with an introductory one-hour tour in period rooms focusing on decorative arts, a garden tram tour and access to the gardens. The group will have a one-hour presentation in the Rotunda Room by Lisa Minardi, Assistant Curator of Furniture at Winterthur and a good friend of the Heritage Center, as well as self-guided time to see the exhibit. Lunch is not included in the tour price but is available in the delightful Winterthur restaurant or attendees may bring their own brown bag lunches.

What a wonderfully special Mother's Day gift this would be!

The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with their Pennsylvania German Heritage. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215–679–3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
