Upper Perkiomen School District Student Art Exhibit to Open March 13, 2011
Pennsburg, PA— Student artwork from Marlborough Elementary School, Hereford Elementary School, Upper Perkiomen Middle School, and Upper Perkiomen High School will be on display at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center beginning on March 13, 2011. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center invites the public to an opening reception on March 13, 2011 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg. Amy Lychock, Kristina Olsen-Berryman, Michelle Burns, Maria Conway, and Norma Reichenbach-Nichols, art teachers at Upper Perkiomen School District, worked with the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center’s Museum Educator Rebecca Lawrence to organize the student art exhibit. The student art exhibit will open March 13, 2011 at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center and will remain on display in the Heritage Center’s Meeting Room through May 8, 2011.
Students created murals, bookplates, birth certificates, and more based on the Heritage Center’s collection. Their work reflects Pennsylvania German motifs found in the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center’s companion exhibit curated by Candace K. Perry called Mazes, Labyrinths, and Puzzles in Fraktur and Broadsides. The companion exhibit Mazes, Labyrinths, and Puzzles in Fraktur and Broadsides opens March 13, 2011 and will remain open through October 16, 2011 in the Heritage Center’s Fraktur Gallery. For additional information about the student art exhibit, contact Rebecca Lawrence, Museum Educator, (215) 679-3103 or email rebecca@schwenkfelder.com.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with their Pennsylvania German Heritage. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215–679–3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
