German Language Lecture on Schwenckfeld and the Schwenkfelders
The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA, invites the public to an illustrated presentation in German on Sunday, June 26, 2:00 pm, in the Heritage Center Meeting Room. The lecture, spoken in the German language, will be given by Allen Viehmeyer who will talk about Caspar Schwenckfeld, the father of Schwenkfeldianism, the Schwenkfeldian movement in Silesia and Germany, and its continuation in Pennsylvania up to today.
This program is offered in conjunction with the Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache and is open at no charge to anyone who would like to hear the Schwenkfelder story told in German. The German language title of the lecture is “die Geschichte der Schwenkfelder: Von der frühen Reformationsbewegung bis zur heutigen Kirche in Pennsylvania”.
Allen Viehmeyer, Associate Director of Research at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, is a Schwenkfelder scholar and professor emeritus of Youngstown State University where he taught German for thirty-five years. He has written numerous articles and has given many presentations on a variety of Schwenkfelder topics.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with their Pennsylvania German Heritage. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215–679–3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
