JESSE TOBIN TO SPEAK AT HERITAGE CENTER ON PA GERMAN HEALING ARTS
Pennsburg, PA—
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, invites the public to a free presentation on herbal medicine and Braucherei as part of the SLHC’s Brown Bag Lecture Series on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at noon. Jesse Tobin from the Three Sisters Center in Kutztown, Pa, will explore the healing practices in herbal medicine and Braucherei of the Pennsylvania Germans. Jesse is a practicing herbalist, Braucher, and teacher in traditional Pennsylvania German Healing Arts. This talk will be repeated on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Heritage Center’s meeting room. Both presentations are free and open to the public.
Jesse Tobin graduated from the Herbal Therapeutics School of Botanical Medicine in 2006. She has a bachelor’s degree in healing Arts from Prescott College and for the past five years has studied in the Pennsylvania German healing practice known as Braucherei (or Powwow). Jesse is a practicing herbalist and Braucher, as well as a teacher in traditional PA German Healing Arts.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
