Julie Longacre Poetry Reading at Heritage Center

Pennsburg, PA ---

Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, invites the public to "From a thought to a Poem", poetry reading by Julie Longacre, on Sunday January 10, 2010 (snow date January 24) at 2:00 pm. Julie will read some of her favorite poems from her new book, "The Place I Keep", and talk about what inspired them and how they were recorded, developed and written, some over time, others in a moment. This program is her first public reading of her poems and the public is invited to record her readings on personal recording devices.

In his review of her book, Larry Roeder, Editor, Town & Country Newspaper, wrote, "The Place I Keep is a wonderful trip into the mind and heart of Julie Longacre. Her poems are heartwarming, amusing, and inspirational. Each one capable of provoking a personal remembrance for the reader...Julie's thoughts translate well into her poems...Her words reflect moods and experiences sprinkled with the innocence of childhood and reality of life...Capable of bringing life to a canvas with pencil, oil, or watercolor, in a way few can, Longacre, with The Place I Keep, has added the written word to her contributions to the world of art."

Julie Longacre, born Julia Anne Buchak, July 18, 1942, in Berks County, PA, is a graduate of Bethany College, Lindsborg, KS. She earned her bachelor of fine arts degree in 1965 and a degree in art education. In addition to awards and recognition for her achievements in art, corporate, public, and private collectors value her paintings and illustrations. Solo exhibitions include her current exhibit at the Heritage Center, The Place I Keep, A Collection of Poems and Pictures by Julie Longacre.

The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com.
