Reception Celebrates New Exhibits
Pennsburg, PA
PENNSBURG, Pa. - The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA, invites the public to an opening reception for new winter exhibits on Sunday, November 30, 2008, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The exhibits include "My Own Fairy Tale - Fanciful Art Dolls by Stacy Clark", "Jack Eagle, the Results of 78 Years of Wandering", the annual Christmas Putz, Nutcrackers from the Collection of Joanne Luz, and Red/Green in Textiles and Decorative Arts.
In her exhibit, "My Own Fairy Tale - Fanciful Art Dolls by Stacy Clark", Clark once again provides a wondrous world of three-dimensional illustrations: art dolls depicting characters from folklore, holiday traditions, and literature. We are proud to host Stacy Clark once again as she features a variety of characters and uses the four seasons to suggest a story arc in a whimsical environment created by Heritage Center volunteers Betty and Charlie Shank.
Also opening at this reception is the retrospective exhibit, "Jack Eagle: The Results of 78 Years of Wandering" Mr. Eagle's career as an artist and art teacher spans several decades and many different mediums. Both painting and sculpture will be featured in this intriguing look at one man's lifelong journey in art. Selected pieces will also be available for purchase.
The Christmas Putz is an annual event at the Heritage Center offering delight to young and old alike. This year's theme is The Farm. Also on exhibit for your holiday enjoyment is the nutcracker collection of Joanne Luz - soldiers, Santas, chimney sweeps, Bible personalities and more! Come see nutcrackers by the Steinbach family, Christian Ulbricht, Lothar Junghanel, and Russian craftsmen.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
