Heritage Center invites local students to take part in summer language enrichment programming
PENNSBURG, Pa. -The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA, invites students to enroll in two summer foreign language enrichment programs, from August 18th through the 21st, 2009.
Summer enrichment Latin is an opportunity to explore Roman mythology, daily life, visual arts and crafts, and other aspects of the Roman culture. Our summer Latin camp focuses on art and culture rather than a large emphasis on language development. August 18-21st, 10am-12pm, $40.00 a student, ages 7-13.
Summer enrichment German is an opportunity to engage in activities related to German and German American customs and traditions. Students will learn the Schwenkfelder immigration story, and take a trip to a Schwenkfelder meeting house. Students will also enjoy cooking activities, folksongs, folk art activities and more found within German and German American traditions. August 18-21st, 1pm-3pm. $40.00 a student, ages 7-13.
Knowledge of German or Latin languages are not required. Registration forms are available at www.schwenkfelder.com or by calling (215) 679-3103. Classes are taught by Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center's Associate Director of Research, Dr. Allen Viehmeyer and Heritage Center Museum Educator, Rebecca Lawrence.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com. ######
