Heritage Center offers unique summer arts programming with local artist Harry Boardman

PENNSBURG, Pa. - The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg Pa, invite youth and their families to mixed media drawing and painting activities in two summer art programs with local fine artist Harry Boardman.

Artist Harry Boardman with Heritage Center Museum Educator, Rebecca Lawrence, will lead various drawing and painting activities in two programs. Saturday, July 18, youth over the age of 7 are invited to attend the Open Studio Day with Harry Boardman from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. The Open Studio Day program at the Heritage Center features art making activities, opportunities to see Boardman's artwork in progress, and a unique opportunity to meet and greet artist Harry Boardman. Youth enrolled in the Open Studio day will learn gesture drawing techniques while transforming themselves into imaginary creatures on paper. During the two day painting / drawing workshop on July 21 and 22, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm students will complete observational drawing activities from nature, and create small mixed media paintings. Registration fees apply for both art programs. Detailed information about Boardman's exhibit and summer programming can be found on www.schwenkfelder.com. For registration information please contact Rebecca Lawrence, Museum Educator, (215) 679-3103 at the Heritage Center.

All arts activities are related to his work featured in his exhibit, Greenhill and Beyond on display at the Heritage Center through September 4, 2009. Greenhill and Beyond: Works Close to Home explores Harry Boardman's observations of his surroundings: his neighborhood, local wildlife, and farmland through his mixed media drawings and paintings.

The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com. ######
