Heritage Center Opens Greenhill and Beyond: Works Close to Home

PENNSBURG, Pa. - The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg Pa, invites the public to the opening of Greenhill and Beyond: Works Close to Home, featuring the work of Harry Boardman, Sunday June 5 from 7-9 pm. Refreshments provided.

Greenhill and Beyond: Works Close to Home explores local Telford artist Harry Boardman's observations of his surroundings: his neighborhood, local wildlife, and farmland through his mixed media drawings and paintings. Boardman received his BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. The public is invited to the opening of Greenhill and Beyond Works Close to Home on June 5, from 7-9 pm. The exhibit will be on view at the Heritage Center through September 4, 2009.

In addition to Boardman's exhibit, the Heritage Center is offering two summer youth programs corresponding to Greenhill and Beyond. Harry Boardman along with Heritage Center Museum Educator, Rebecca Lawrence, will lead various drawing and painting activities. Youth over the age of 7 years are invited to attend the Open Studio Day with Harry Boardman on July 18, 2009 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Boardman will bring his works in progress, and students will engage in drawing from nature and gesture drawing exercises related to his monster paintings. During the two day painting/drawing workshop on July 21 and 22, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm students will complete observational drawing activities outside, and create small mixed media paintings. Registration fees apply. Detailed information about Boardman's exhibit and summer programming can be found on www.schwenkfelder.com.

The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com. ######
