East Greenville Centennial Remembered

The Friends of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center invite the community to a program on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the Heritage Center Meeting Room remembering the East Greenville Centennial celebration in 1975. The main feature of the afternoon will be the viewing of the film made of the observance festivities and the parade.

Incorporated September 6, 1875, East Greenville Borough enjoyed its finest hour in its one hundred year history by staging a Centennial Observance. In April 1975, many chapters of the Brothers of the Bush and Centennial Belles were organized. Possibly the largest parade in the history of East Greenville was held June 14, 1975. The film of the events, which will be shown, will also be available for sale to benefit the Friends organization. Centennial merchandise will also be on display and some will be available for purchase. Come out wearing your Centennial garb, bring pictures, hear stories, and recall the fun memories of those treasured days. Refreshments will be served.

The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
