Schwenkfelder Heritage Center and Lorax Foundation Announce Photo Contest Award Winners

Pennsburg, PA ---

The winners of the "For the Beauty of the Earth photo contest", currently on exhibit at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, Pennsburg, were announced at a public reception on Sunday, September 28.

The Lorax Foundation, a land conservation and preservation group based in Hereford and Washington Townships, Berks County, partnered with the Heritage Center to present the exhibit and contest. The Foundation also sponsored first place prizes.

Second place prizes were sponsored by Stauffer Manufacturing, and third place, by East Greenville photographer Steve Pestrock.

In the adult category, Julie Rooney won first place for her Summer Dreams. Peter Stern, an aerial photographer, took second for his Quarry in Mountainside. Sharon Shipe placed third for her Autumn Serenity. Honorable mentions were awarded to Doug Wallinger, Ken Souser and Pam McLean-Parker.

In the youth ages 14 to 17 category, Emma Van Valkenburgh took first place for Silo, while Kerri Bates placed second for Ben Franklin Bridge.

In the youth ages 7 to 13 category, Heather Reichley won first place with her Katy's Shadow, and Melissa Kilroy placed second for Comcastic. Kristen Kilroy took third place with Fawningly Yours. Daisy Christman received honorable mention for her Kite Wonder.

Van Valkenburgh and Reichley tied for the People's Choice vote at the reception.

The exhibit runs through November 8.

The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
