TAPE WEAVING WORKSHOP AT THE HERITAGE CENTER

PENNSBURG, Pa. - The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, announces a special Tape Weaving workshop, taught by weaver Susan Weaver, on Saturday, April 19, 2008, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm at the Heritage Center. Space is limited and a fee of $35.00 per participant is charged. Participants are asked to bring a box lunch.

Hand woven tape ribbon was important to the PA Germans in the 18th and 19th centuries. Led by Susan Weaver who taught our children's tape weaving workshop last year, this Adult workshop will offer an intensive exploration of the traditional tape loom and the weaving process. Learn to read a 'draft', 'dress' a box loom and weave historical patterns. No experience necessary. Registration deadline is April 12, 2008. A small snack and break is provided. Registration forms are available on our website, www.schwenkfelder.com or by calling Rebecca at 215-679-3103.

Susan Weaver, a hand weaver for over 20 years, has taught weaving classes for 15 years. She was the Textile Educator at the Landis Valley Museum, Lancaster, PA, for 7 years.

The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
