Heritage Center receives PHMC GOS Grant

PENNSBURG, Pa.- The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has awarded the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center of Pennsburg
with a $11,888.00 General Operating Support Grant. The grant is awarded for the 2007/2008 state granting period.

General Operating Support funds are a competitive grant process beginning with application being made through the internet prior to May 1, 2007. Submitted grant applications are peer reviewed and decisions were announced in August, 2007. State contracts were drawn up, signed and returned to Harrisburg. Once all the paperwork was officially in order, the Heritage Center received the check for $11, 888.00 this past week. One final step remains in the state grant funding process, which is to submit a Final Report detailing the use of the funds by December 31, 2008.

The Heritage Center funds awarded will be used toward support of the salaries of Curator of Collections and the Museum Educator. This support is crucial for the operations of small institutions such as the Heritage Center providing educational services and cultural opportunities for the people of Pennsylvania.

The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
