PA GERMAN DIALECT PROGRAM AT THE HERITAGE CENTER

Pennsburg, PA ---

The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center invites the public to a PA German Dialect program, spoken entirely in the dialect, on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at 2:00 PM in the Meeting Room of the Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA 18073. The program is free and open to the public and refreshments will follow the program.

A panel of PA German dialect speakers Sam Kriebel, Edith Leh and Charles Krauss will present a discussion of reminiscences and storytelling.
Moderator Betty Krauss of Palm, PA will engage the panel and audiences in topics such as weather beliefs, men and women tramps, men and women hired hands and other topics raised by members of the panel and the audience. A previous discussion in February, 2007, was such a success, the Friends Board of Directors decided to do this again! Additional to the discussions, Leroy Heffentrayer will lead the audience in two songs in dialect: one at the start of the program and one at the end.

The PA German dialect is rapidly disappearing from the southeast Pennsylvania communities. This local language was once a staple for home and community conversations. This program is another effort on the part of the Heritage Center to preserve this part of the local heritage. Bring the children and grandchildren to experience this important part of their heritage.

"Mir wolle widder Deitsch Schwetze!"

The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
