FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES AT THE HERITAGE CENTER

PENNSBURG, Pa. - The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, announces a series of foreign language classes to be held during the month of April. Dr. L. Allen Viehmeyer, Associate Director of Research, will be teaching the classes. German and Latin languages will be taught. A Basic German workshop will be offered at two different times: Wednesday, April 2 and Friday, April 4 at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Learn a set of basic German words from greetings, numbers, colors to food and object names as you work from materials from our museum collection. Designed for multiple age groups. No previous knowledge of German required. Participants must be 5 years or older and a $5.00 fee is charged.

A Basic Latin workshop will be offered at two different times: and Friday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 16, at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. A brief introduction to the language of the ancient Romans! Perfect for young students and parents that want to explore and learn some basic Latin vocabulary and culture without engaging in a multiple session course. In one hour, learn basic Latin vocabulary: colors, numbers, animals. Learn how Latin is used today in English. Designed for multiple age groups. No previous knowledge of Latin is required. Participants must be 5 years or older and a $5.00 fee is charged.

A Short Session of Beginner-Advanced Latin classes will be held Wednesdays and Fridays beginning April 4, 9, 11, 16, 23 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am for ages 6-18. Learn the language of the ancient Romans. Beginners are introduced to basic vocabulary and simple sentences; Non-beginners will expand their skills. Emphasis is on reading Latin aloud and reading for content. Fundamentals of Latin and English grammar will be taught. Students will be divided into small groups according to skill level. The individual groups will be taught in turn by the instructor, while the other groups are supervised by an assistant who will help them with various learning activities. Assignments, texts, and activities will vary according to age and skill level. Materials provided with a class size maximum of 15 participants. Pre-registration and a $25.00 fee for the 5 hours of instruction is required.

A Short Session of Beginner-Advanced Conversational German will be held Wednesdays and Fridays April 4, 9, 11, 16, 23 from 1:30pm-2:30pm for ages 6-18. Build upon your skills and basic vocabulary set as you increase your conversational ability in German. Learn about daily life in Germany today. Designed for multiple age groups. Prerequisite: basic vocabulary such as colors and numbers. Materials provided with a class size maximum of 15 participants. Pre-registration and a $25.00 fee for the 5 hours of instruction is required.

The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
