18TH CENTURY GERMAN CHURCH RECORDS DISCUSSED

Pennsburg, PA --- The Board of Directors of the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA invite the public to a presentation by Dr. Allen Viehmeyer on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 12:00 noon entitled: Harpersdorf and Berthelsdorf Church Records. This Brown Bag Lunch Talk is open to the public who are invited to bring their lunch, beverage will be provided. The presentation will be repeated on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 2:00 pm.
This is a lecture slide presentation showing the church record books of marriages, births, deaths, and baptisms of Schwenkfelders living in Harpersdorf, Silesia, (1670s to 1720s) and in Berthelsdorf, Saxony, (1720s and early 1730s). See pictures of the villages and the churches as they are today. See the records and find out what they say about these Germans who settled in colonial Pennsylvania.
Allen Viehmeyer, Ph. D., is Associate Director of Research at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center. A graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana / Champaign in German philology, he taught German language and culture courses at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio for thirty-five years. His specialty is German-American culture with focus on German sectarians in southeastern Pennsylvania.
The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders’ cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
