BOOK SIGNING FOR NEW UPPER PERKIOMEN BOOK

PENNSBURG, Pa. - The public is invited to a book signing by authors Jerry A.
Chiccarine and David W. Luz on Sunday, February 24, 2008, 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA 18073. The book, The Upper Perkiomen Valley is a new Arcadia Publishing Images of America local history photograph book. The book is available for sale at the Heritage Center, many local outlets, and in most national and regional chain booksellers.

The Upper Perkiomen Valley covers a large portion of the northern corner of Montgomery County, PA, and smaller portions of Berks, Lehigh, and Bucks Counties, PA. Through postcards and photographs, The Upper Perkiomen Valley illustrates the culture as it existed in this area a century ago. Previously unseen images create an understanding of the past, a connection with the community and pride in this beautiful region.

Jerry A. Chiccarine, author of Along the Perkiomen (another Arcadia publication), has lived all his life along the Perkiomen creek and is an avid postcard collector. David W. Luz is the Executive Director of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center. Together with local researcher Narona Kemmerer Gebert, they organized and assembled this book with the support of the archives and staff of the Schwenkfelder Library. All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center.

The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today. Arcadia is proud to play a role in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all.

The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center was founded in 1884 as an informal collection in a private home to assure the preservation of the Schwenkfelders' cultural identity. Today the Heritage Center, a not-for-profit organization, is still preserving, interpreting, and documenting the history of this German Protestant group, along with the history of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Heritage Center is closed to the public on Mondays. For additional information call 215-679-3103 or visit our website www.schwenkfelder.com
