Studio Art Classes for Homeschoolers Winter & Spring 2011

Open interpretation and personal expression is emphasized around a curriculum combining visual culture, material culture, and studio art practice using the Heritage Center's collection as a foundation. At least one local historian and exhibiting artist will be invited to come to class to work with students. Courses will be taught by Heritage Center Museum Educator, Rebecca Lawrence.

Art I is designed for 6–13 year olds. Each class size is restricted to a maximum of 13 to allow for individualized attention.

What are the course requirements?

Students are required to keep a sketchbook with weekly entries, complete 2D and 3D projects, and complete individual and group projects. If students miss a class, students are invited to take advantage of scheduled open studio hours listed below or arrange a separate make up time.

Projects may include: developing self portraits based on the Heritage Center's collection of folk art portraits, creating found object sculptures reflecting the use of Victorian craft, analyzing and interpreting printed broadsides/advertisements, and creating a fiber art or paper collage inspired by motifs in Heritage Center quilts and textiles.
