Girl Scout Offerings 2009-2010

The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center provides hands on and inquiry based badge workshops for both boy and girl scouts.

Registration Information

There is no charge for accompanied chaperones and scouting leaders. A minimum of participants may apply. Length and cost per program may vary. Programs are offered on weekends, weekday afternoons and Thursday evenings. Call or email to register.

Brownies- Try It Workshops

Stitch It Together (2.5hrs, $8)

Learn the art of four sewing techniques, as represented in our textile collection, then bind your samples together to form your own sewing journal. Badge included.

Listening to the Past (2.5 hrs, $8)

Visit the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center and trace the immigration story of the Schwenkfelders. Learn why, when and how they came to America. Badge included.

Make It Eat It: The Pennsylvania German Way (2.5hrs, $8)

Enjoy a small sampling of Pa German foods and explore their connection to the PA German way of life in the Perkiomen valley. Minimum of 10 scouts. Badge included.

Juniors- Badge Workshops

Art in the Home (2.5 hrs, $8)

Explore forms of household art production by PA German women during the Victorian period. Create your own floral wreath and sewn bookmark. Badge included.

Folk Arts (3 hrs, $8)

Take a tour of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center through a folk art lens! Write captions and short stories for photos in our photography collection and explore the Pennsylvania German folk arts of Scherenschnitte and Fraktur. Badge included. A small snack and break is provided for scouts.

Yarn and Fabric Arts (2.5hrs, $8)

Explore the PA German tradition of weaving and needlework. Begin your own weaving and an embroidery sample. Badge included.

My Heritage (2.5 hrs, $8)

Share your family story with us as we share the immigration story of the Schwenkfelders. Find out if you have Schwenkfelder roots! Begin a family tree and learn the basics in genealogy research. Badge included.

Cadettes

Earn partial credit by attending a workshop on the following Interest Projects:

Service projects

Service projects for the above Interest Projects can be completed at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center but must be scheduled on an individual scout basis, outside of workshop time. Service projects are available at no additional charge per scout. We offer many different volunteer opportunities for scouts!
